Quarterly Editor – Betty Jo Parsons
Two incidents stirred Betty Jo’s interest in family history and genealogy. Her new-found Wisconsin friends in the early 1960s (most of whom were of German, Polish, or Scandinavian descent) asked “what are you.” To which she replied that she was a Methodist. The other query came from a third grade teacher—not hers, but her daughter’s—”Where did your ancestors come from?” Neither Betty Jo nor her daughter knew, but her father came to the rescue. His family, the Carrolls and the McAllisters, came from North Carolina and Tennessee and settled in the Sand Hill area of Carroll County. She was born and raised in Haralson County, Georgia, and never knew that! She was hooked and needed to know more. Twenty years later she joined the Carroll County Genealogical Society, looking for some guidance in her research. She was not disappointed. Since then, she has served in several capacities and assisted with the surveying and publication of the cemetery books for Carroll County.
